The Catskill Animal Sanctuary near Saugerties, New York is a slice of heaven on earth to me. I am a member and have worked there as a volunteer and go whenever I can when I am in New York. Founder and director Kathy Stevens is an incredible inspiration to me. Here is someone who followed her heart and her dreams to combine her two greatest passions – education and animal rescue. I have seen this place grow from a dream which she started on an 85 acre former harness racing farm that had become a junk yard to what now is one of the most respected rescue organizations in the country. Kathy is also a very gifted writer, you won’t be able to put down ‘Where the Blind Horse Sings’, or read it without tears in your eyes. I have not read her new book ‘Animal Camp’ yet but I bet it is equally as good. The sanctuary recently purchased a pre-Revolutionary War home adjoining their property which is undergoing renovations and will soon be operating as a charming B & B. A visit/stay here renew your spirit, move and inspire you, and help all the adorable critters that call CAS home.
